Greetings to
all followers of Jesus Christ:
I am so thankful that God is the same yesterday, today, and
tomorrow! I pray you see and believe it
too! The summer is still going strong
and hot, but I would not want it any other way.
Hurricane Dolly has come and gone and we are still here! We
thank God for His protection. Everyone
is getting back to normal after cleaning up all the downed tree branches. The church suffered some minor damage from
wind and water. We have faith that God
is providing for us with these conditions.
We appreciate all the prayers and concerns from everyone. We have seen God working over these
days. We must keep our eyes on Him
alone, Amen!!!
The church took about 25 people to South Padre Island for the
2nd annual Christian RockFest which consisted of 3 Christian
groups. There was also a youth group which
performed two very touching dramas. It
was a good time of fellowship. We had a
large gathering at the parsonage for the 4th of July
celebration. It was so much fun to have
everyone over. Weslaco had their first
fireworks display, which needs some improvement, but we made the most of it.
July 7-11, Johnna and I took 5 kids to camp. It was incredible. God definitely met us there. One young man gave his life to Christ! Glory to God!
God is in the business of touching any life. I see it time and time again. We need to pray for our young people as they
prepare to go back to school. God has
given us the lives to touch for Jesus. I
pray we are doing everything we can for the Lord.
We are continued to be blessed during our Sunday School and
small group times. We have decided to
leave our Sunday School on Sunday Evening for another month to see if it will
continue to be a success. We have a good
turn-out and everyone is enjoying it at this time. The
Adult class will be finishing up how to be a “contagious Christian”. The teens are continuing their study of the
epistles of Paul. Rosie is still working
hard with the PreK-1st; and Melecia is continuing her work with the
2nd-5th graders.
We are seeking additional volunteers for the nursery. We have another great problem: we have a large teen group that we feel to
better serve the youth we need to make two classes: a senior high class (9th-12th)
and a junior high class (6th-8th). This means we are in search of another Sunday
School teacher to teach the Junior high class.
If you are interested please talk with Dalia. If you are interested in touching the lives
in our nursery, please talk with Gloria Aguirre.
We were scheduled to have a work and witness team come in
from Houston to help us to do some things around the church, but because of
Hurricane Dolly we had to cancel. God
used them in another area of Texas. We
will be blessed with another opportunity of a Work and Witness group coming in
from the Ft. Worth/ Dallas area. They
are coming as part of the Border Initiative Plan the Church of the Nazarene has
incorporated along the USA/Mexico border.
Some people want to put up a wall, but God wants to touch lives and
transform them in this area. I have no
doubt in my mind that God will accomplish what He has set His people out to do. What about you?
Upcoming events for August include: Mini soccer camp and W&W
team working on the church (4th-7th), VBS (13th-16th),
Birthday and Anniversary Celebration (17th), Missionary Lesson (20th),
“Naz Night” at Six Flags in Dallas (29th).
The church leadership and I ask you to pray fervently for
God’s touch in our lives in the days ahead.
The church is going through some spiritual growing pains. God is there for us and we need to continue
to trust and obey in our Lord. As the
song says, “There is no other way.” God
wants us to be all we can be for Him. We
need to let the Holy Spirit transform us.
In October, we will be celebrating with every Nazarene church
around the world 100 years as a Holiness church. Our
beginnings came from three major Holiness groups coming together in the late
1800’s to seek the life that God has called His people to live in Him. The names that are at the top of the list of
staying true to holiness are Phineas Bresee, C. B. Jernigan and H. F.
Reynolds. If you do not know these names
I would encourage you to get to know them.
You will be touched by their ministry and life for our Lord and the Church
of the Nazarene.
We continue to strive to build God’s Kingdom through
Holiness, Discipleship, and Missional. The
Mission God has given us in Acts 1:8.
